Are my Keytops Ivory or Plastic?

Ivory was used on piano keytops until the advent of “newer” plastics that had properties that made it acceptable for use in keytop material (around 1930).  Pianos of higher quality continued to use ivory through the mid 1990’s, when the Ivory Ban went into effect.  A few pianos built after the mid-1990s may still have ivory keytops, since any ivory that was already made into keytop material at the time of the ban could be used legally.
